Late yesterday evening, an ultrasound was performed on Khaleesi due to excessive chest tube output that was still showing quite a bit of blood. Typically, within 48 hours, this output should become less bloody and change to more of a yellowish bodily fluid — but hers has not.
The ultrasound revealed a blood clot in one of the major veins in her upper body, right next to her heart, which is causing some restriction. They also found another clot in her lower groin area. The doctors mentioned that the clots can be somewhat common given all the interventions she’s been through and the large cannulas that were once placed in her neck from her ECMO support.
Because of this, Khaleesi will be taken back to the Cath Lab this morning for another procedure to remove both clots. This is a very risky intervention, as there’s a chance that if the clot moves the wrong way toward her heart, it could result in a stroke. The team has assured us they’ll have all hands on deck for this procedure.
Until this is completed, we won’t be able to move forward with plans to extubate her. It’s been a rough night and early morning for us, but we wanted to keep everyone updated and continue asking for your prayers over our sweet girl as she goes through yet another challenge.
Thank you all for continuing to lift her up in prayer, share her story, and support us through this incredibly difficult journey. Every message, donation, and act of love means more than words can ever express.
